(A quick explanation of the Meridian Social:  The theme was "Goth Night": Ostragoth, Visigoth…steampunk goth.  Obviously the fun of converting one's favorite costume period to black vinyl had some appeal.  Gwen, Maudey and I are all 14thc, Khalil is 15thc Landsknecht, there were several Viking hangeroks…but unfortunately I don't recall any vinyl hennins.  Pity.  :P)

  1. Greet!
Maerwynn here (Queen of Calontir at Gulf, but now just Maerwynn again). I wondered if it was you when I met you…
I’ve been reading your blog for awhile now. 😉
Glad to have met you in person…
    Maerwynn

  2. Maybe it’s the stick jock in me but I think some art-folk need to thicken their skin. No, yours isn’t the only way to recreate coptic designs, but yes it is the best, short of weaving whole garments. And yes, I feel confident making that blanket statement. It’s ridiculously time and labor intensive, and not very practical for Joe-Byzantine on the street, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s inherently better than any other form of embellishment. There are a host of other methods, all of which achieve varying degrees of success on a sliding scale relative to the amount of time/effort put in. They all have their place. But no one can make an argument to convince me that the end product is superior to this method. And that was the point you made, with minimal snark in my opinion.
