Daan’s watchcover

I originally thought I’d use a piece of split black leather I got from Gulf Wars. But Lavena looked at it, and at the watch, and said, "Come with me."  She proceeded into a back bedroom and proceeded to throw incredibly soft leather pieces at me.  "This is deer" and "elk" and "here’s some partially done gloves" and "check out these shoes" (which happened to fit me, so of course I want to do them next).  Clearly the GW remnant wasn’t going to work. I took up her offer of the deer, and here’s the finished watch, with fingerbraided lanyard.  … Continue reading Daan’s watchcover

Weaver’s Guild

I went to my first weaving club meeting on Saturday. It was interesting – and did two things for my motivations: (1) Got me very interested in the 4-harness weaving book that Ann lent me; and (2) I signed up to cover tablet weaving for the June off-loom weaving survey meeting. So I read about half the book, yesterday, while knitting on the French Market bag (not on the Open Projects list…I know, I know, but it’s a stash buster) and determined that I’m going to be weaving a First Project Scarf.  (Sigh – we have zero uses for scarves.  … Continue reading Weaver’s Guild

Spoon’s Saffron Shirt

5/28 – Nearly done – one set of side seams left to flatfell, and the hems.——————5/15 – In my latest wave of deluded naive mania, I have decided to HANDSEW Spoon’s shirt.  This started with wanting to canoodle sit in front of the tv with Daan, rather than over in the corner making a racket with the sewing machine.  I had to piece the sleeves together, because I was feeling frugal with the saffron linen.  And if I was going to piece them, why not use insertion stitch, so they’d have a little more ventilation?  And if I was going … Continue reading Spoon’s Saffron Shirt

Yoga

I’m going to add a new category, but this one isn’t for a new interest – but one I’m coming back to. I took up yoga seriously several years ago.  I was trying to figure out how to lead a post-academic, grownup-dancing life.  Yoga was techy/historic enough (just wait until I get to the names) and active enough to interest me. I did a couple of years of weekly classes, and really liked it.  I bought books and videos, the occasional magazine, and really immersed myself, as I have a tendency to do.  However, some of the other parts of … Continue reading Yoga

Whirligigs and 3-man heys

I’m going to Kingdom A&S in two weeks, and there’s going to be a ball.  Here’s the list of dances (the ones marked with a * are the ones Mel knows).  I know I’ve done Petit Vriens and Amoroso, and possibly Black Alman – that’s what happens when you say to any man in the room – "teach me this!"  It’ll take me a while to sort out what I’ve done before… Set 1Bransle Charlotte*Rostiboli Gioioso & Piva*Jenny Pluck Pears*Chirintana Set 2If All The World Were PaperPetit VriensBlack Alman*Ballo Del Fiore & Galliard Set 3Bransle De GuerreChestnutAmoroso*Heart’s Ease* Set 4Scotch … Continue reading Whirligigs and 3-man heys
