Panhandle Skirmishes

Mom and I went to Panhandle Skirmishes, which is hosted by the Barony of Oldenfeld.  Mom borrowed my new Viking garb.  She likes to call herself the Viking Crone.
Vikingcrone (The Viking Crone takes the WonderPooch out for a bathroom.)

Her garb was complimented several times, particularly after she figured out how to make my husband’s country western belt buckles work as Viking brooches.  They’re sized perfectly, and were also complimented.  Hee.

Panhandle was interesting – lots of good fighting, though I didn’t watch much.  I did admire some helmet brushes, and thought Theadora was adorable as the World’s Smallest Archer.  (And possibly Sneakiest – I overheard some fighters groaning about how ‘you can’t even duck’ her shafts.  Hee again.)

MOM, SEND ME YOUR PICS.

I also got to play with Eoin’s great sword, and show off the helicopter move again.  Eoin was very encouraging, and also let me try on a set of Visby plates.  I found these quite comfortable, and effective against body slamming a 8×8 post.  I wonder if they’re legal for Meridies.  Here‘s a set of SCA instructions for a plastic bucket version (ick?).  This technique of armoring is quite interesting, from a construction point of view.  Bother, this feels like another project coming on…quick, to another subject.

I did a lot of spinning.  Got nearly a bobbin’s worth of alpaca single carded and spun.  Made my middle traps sore the next day.  Also did some chatting with Queen Lethrenn, and exchanged pleasantries with King Max and Sir Hrodger.  Here’s a box that Lavena made for their Majesties to give the King of Trimaris, who resides in Oldenfeld:

I understand this is one of a pair.  ‘Tis very pretty.

See, Lavena’s got cards now, too!

After we got home, we watched an episode of Cadfael, ‘The Rose Rent’, in which there were scenes with people working a weaver’s workshop.  There were carders, and spinners and warp measurers and weavers – though it didn’t look organized very usefully to me.

Still, I always like Cadfael, and the heroine of this episode was wearing a very nice wimple that was laced up the back in a becoming way.  More projects I’d like to try.
