GW: Tablet Weaving

Okay, this is one of those embarrassing times when you struggle and struggle to understand something new, and then when you finally get someone to show you, it’s suddenly easy.

I simply did not understand the ‘rotate the cards’ aspect of tablet weaving – I kept rotating them sideways in my mind, and not understanding why the bottom never got hopelessly twisted.  It didn’t occur to me to rotate them as if they were rolling along the warp.  Now, I am enlightened, and feel I can indeed follow print directions, and buy this book.

(Check out the sunshade beyond in the first photo – that’s the one I’m building.)

Thanks to Ann for this link to a very neat video of silk preparation and tablet weaving.

  1. Don’t forget Candace Crockett’s “Cardweaving.” Hendrickson’s stuff is really good (and she’s nice too–I’ve met her) but more advanced.
OTOH–you can probably get enough basic cardweaving info from the web. Cardweaving is one of those things where you can do something very simple and basic (and it will look good) or something very complicated. When it comes to weaving–the simpler the loom the more complicated weaves you can do on it.
