Book Review – World Textiles, A Concise History

Worldtextiles
Sorry I’ve been quiet – very busy lately with a family medical crisis, new technology, garden worrying, trying to go paperless with professional stuff, and learning about personality types.  All completely engrossing…but not very medieval.

One thing emergency rooms are good for is the spending of time.  Fortunately Lavena had passed on Honnoria’s book to me ("because I do textiles when??") and I’m really glad she did.

Not only because it was apparently Just The Right Thing for several-hour-chunks of worrisome uncertainty and waiting, but because it’s a terrifically dense little resource, that is exactly what it claims to be.  I expect to be quoting it for some time – I found things in it I haven’t read elsewhere, alternate pictures of things I’m familiar with, and unexpected fabulosity.  A great little introduction to textiles.  Thanks so much guys.

More on gardening soon – I have a new book and seeds to plant.  I’m BEHIND.  Again.

  1. Hmmm–I had left a comment but it looks like it didn’t take. Hope the medical crisis has been resolved–emergency rooms are no fun, good books or not.
I’ll have to look over World Textiles again. I had previewed it previously for my class, but it’s a little complex for undergraduates that really aren’t into the subject. I seem to recall that in drawing comparisons between textiles of different cultures it seemed to be linking them–which could be confusing. I’ll give it another chance.

  2. I too hope the medical crisis resolved itself. Please let me know if you need any help… that can be given from clear over here.
    What about personality-types? Myers-Briggs sort?
