I've been wanting a camp chair that was strong enough for anybody to sit in, and for me to sit in someone's lap in.  And, since it's mine, it needed some "in the range of" documentation, even though it's a camp chair.  And it had to fold up or break down nicely.  And I wanted it to be more comfortable than a plywood chair.

Here's the one Michael Moulton and I worked on this weekend: 5thc Irish Tuam; I haven't seen the book that this guy's instructions are based on yet, and I'd really like to see the original information there, but I figured it's got to be more fun than plywood to figure out.

Well, it was.  We're nearly done – Mike took a bunch of pictures of me working hard in grubbiness…

We could have finished in two work sessions, but I had a housewarming party to go to, and didn't want to rush the sanding and peg making.  It was neat to play with wood again, particularly in as nice a shop as Mike has.  And it was great to work with someone who has a great humility to the work – that all effort matters little, so long as the work is progressing, and also creativity for solving problems.  At one point, we were madly bracing splayed legs and seat, trying to complete triangles in order to measure what the front crossbrace angles should be, and we hardly had to explain ourselves to each other.  Just terribly challenging and fun.

I'm planning on going back up next weekend (how many 1.5 hour trips equal one 8 hour trip?  My box needs an oil change) to finish it up, and deliver a couple of Viking Rus tunics for a swap.
