Brown Linen score!

So Joann’s is having an end-of season sale, and marked all their linen 60% off.  Mel made sure we all knew about it.

I was skeptical of buying anything, because, after all, my green kirtle isn’t done, I have another shift’s worth of handkerchief linen left, and should I want to emulate a Renaissance Italian prostitute, nearly a dress’ worth of saffron linen left from Spoon’s Saffron Shirt.  I don’t like to keep a Stash.

But I thought since it’s so easy for me to swing by and check, I’ll swing by and check, and tell everyone on list.

At first I was unimpressed.  Machine-embroidered linen-cotton blends, ick.  Linen-rayon blends, ick.  I am a fiber snob, I want the real stuff.  I am Dutch (in the SCA), I want a bargain.

Then I saw the 100% pile.  And there was a good piece of a bolt left with chocolate dress weight.  I took it to the cutting table, ostensibly to find out how much was left on the bolt (though who are we kidding), but then a Joann’s miracle happened.

Now I have been stiffed by Joann’s before.  By their complicated discount schemes that are not fully implemented by their not-too-computer savvy workforce.  But this time, the not-savviness worked in my favor.  I scarcely breathed and managed to get out of there with 5.75 yards of 100% chocolate linen goodness for (let me read this off the receipt) SEVEN DOLLARS AND EIGHTY-FIVE CENTS.

That’s right folks, I will have a new dress for less than ten bucks.  Insert girlish squeeeeeeee here.

It’s too dark, you can’t have a picture.  Do not waah in the comments.

  1. OK, how did you do that? 100% linen is $14.99 a yard. It’s 60% off so it would be $6 a yard x 5.75 and I get around $35. Still not bad for 100% linen, but even with the extra 10% off it’s still over $30. Even if you could use a 40% off coupon it would still be over $16. So how did you do that? I want cheap 100% linen too. (And I’m presuming that you will be brining it tomorrow to show off?)
