And I had a WONDERFUL time! (Thank you SO much, Gabrielle, for bringing me along – it was so nice to tent with you!)
I have so much to say about the last five days – I learned so much and met so many nice people! – it’ll take me a little while to get it all together – and to catch up on my sleep! Here’s a preview.
Leatherwork workshop
Medieval cookery and redacting
Basic salves and creams
Mordanting and dyeing
Handsewn garb construction, including eyelets and fabric buttons
DANCING and DANCING and DANCING
Chatted up fencers
Chatted up tent owners
Watched fencing melees and pickups
Attended Court
Shopped!
Got many, many, many compliments on my garb
Drank interesting things and did not get sick or drunk
Met the neighboring shire, and very experienced SCAdians
Listened to bards and drummers
Got answers on my tablet weaving questions
Made real progress on my knitted lace stockings, since I carried them around with me
Watched people learn blacksmithing
Gave out lots of GMA cards – welcome!
I didn’t get to do any scribe stuff – I tried – but the class I wanted didn’t happen. I did poke around the scribe place where illuminations were going on. Have to leave something to do for next year, right?
Hello, Greet! It was delightful to meet you at war. I enjoyed our conversations and dancing a great deal, and look forward to more as geography and time allow. And further topics we may explore another time, such as costuming & handsewing techniques (self-fabric buttons. eyelets. yes!), scribery, cooking and gardening, etc. ad nauseam.
cheers,
HL Eoin, from Oldenfeld/ Jen from Tallahassee
